PAGE 4 EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET Welcome to Beacon Hospital s Consultant led Emergency Department ED Pricing and Insurance Information A departmental fee of 250 applies to all patients who seek treatment in our Emergency Department If you require additional radiology laboratory services and or minor procedures additional fees will apply A breakdown of these fees can be found overleaf ED fees are capped at 695 This means that the most you will pay for a visit to Beacon Hospital s ED is 695 Some of these services will be covered directly by your private health insurance provider e g MRI Other services may be indirectly covered by your insurer via an outpatient benefit claim Please contact your insurer for details Some exclusions may apply and these can be found overleaf Please note we do not accept children under the age of 16 What if I m Admitted to Hospital If you require admission to the hospital a 250 ED admission fee will apply At this point and if applicable patients may activate their private health insurance cover We would encourage all patients to contact their insurer at this point to be aware of any excess or shortfall that may apply to their stay If you do not hold a private health insurance plan but wish to proceed with an admission please refer to our Information for Self Paying Patients leaflet or ask our team for details Alternatively please contact patientaccounts beaconhospital ie with any questions you may have Emergency Department Patient Pathway STEP 1 Arrive at Emergency Department Beacon Hospital Emergency Department is located in the main hospital on level 2 STEP 2 Registration Step 1 a On arrival please give your name date of birth and vaccination status to the staff member at the ED reception desk Step 1 b You will be asked to sign your registration paperwork to verify that all personal details have been correctly captured The billing process will also be explained to you at this point If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask STEP 3 Triage Triage is an assessment by a specially trained emergency nurse to determine the clinical urgency of your presentation A member of the triage nursing team will assess patients to identify clinical priority You will be assigned a triage category ranging from 1 4 This number is based on the clinical urgency of your complaint We will try our best to triage all patients within 30 minutes of arrival The triage nurse will inform you of the hospital s current bed status Please do not eat or drink until triage has been completed You may be asked to provide a urine sample at this point STEP 4 Assessment Our triage team will initiate investigations when space triage protocol allows These investigations may include ECG electrocardiogram Blood Tests Urine Tests Blood Glucose Testing STEP 5 Emergency Department ED Doctor Review Our ED Doctors will assess you and decide what tests and or investigations are required This may include further blood and or radiology tests If at any stage you need an update please ask a member of staff 4 3 2 1 NAME 5 7 6 STEP 6 Investigations Blood test results are usually available within 60 120 minutes Radiology images are available immediately however the written Radiologist report can take anything between 90 minutes to 3 hours This is because the images must be read by a specialist to interpret the results Radiology images include X ray Doppler US CT MRI You will be reviewed by an ED Doctor After the Radiologist has provided their report When all other test results such as bloods are available A cubicle is available to review you Please note CT MRI Ultrasound scans may need to be scheduled as an outpatient STEP 7 Decision To Admit or Discharge Your Doctor will make the decision on whether admission to an inpatient ward is required Admission Process If admission is required the nurse in charge will liaise with the Bed Manager in order to check bed availability Please note that private rooms are allocated on a case of clinical priority regardless of insurance cover Our Patient Accounts team process All inpatient stay bills once you have been discharged This will include the admission fee of 250 as well as any excess or shortfall on your health insurance plan
